Summer Schools 16+

The BCC will run several courses during our 2019 Summer recess. Each course is £350.00 plus £30.00 contribution towards materials.

All courses are taught by the BCC’s expert tutors ensuring the highest quality course content. All necessary tools, equipment and materials will be provided. All courses will be delivered at our Kennard Road site.

Introduction to Woodwork

29 July – 2 August

A 5-day course consisting of the following:

  • Using and sharpening tools and basic hand skills.
  • Preparing timber for use.
  • Setting out basic joints such as halving joints, housing joints and mortice and tenon joints and using these to construct basic frames.
Introduction to Wood Carving

30 July – 2 August

A 4-day course giving an introduction to architectural wood carving:

  • Using carving tools
  • safe use and sharpening
  • chip carving project for practice
  • completion of an architectural ornament piece in wood.
Introduction to stone carving: Making a Bird Bath

5 – 9 August

A 5-day course in which participants with some experience or new to stone carving can make a small bird bath carved from stone.

Making a Tool Box

19- 23 August

A 5-day course in which participants will make a high quality joiners tool box:

  • Carcass making with dovetail joints including setting out for and practising of joints.
  • Introduction to the use of machines for preparation of timber.
  • Tool box construction.
