Advanced Modern Apprenticeship (AMA) in Bench Joinery, Shopfitting (Bench Work) and Site Carpentry Level 3

Is the course for me?

Advanced Modern Apprenticeship (AMA)

This is a framework laid out by Construction Skills (CSkills) and is applicable to all industry employed Apprentices who are sponsored by a managing agent.

The AMA frame work requires the Apprentice to complete the full Frame work Modern Apprenticeship (MA) at Level 2.

In addition the Apprentice needs to complete the Level 3 Diploma, which is college based, the Level 3 Diploma NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) which is work based, have obtained GCSE’s in English and Maths grades A-C, or complete a college based portfolio in Communications and Numeracy at Level 2. The College based certificate in Employment Responsibilities and Rights. Together these elements make up the full Frame work Advanced Modern Apprenticeship (AMA), which must be completed inside 1 year.

You will Learn about:

Bench Joinery

Diploma

◘ Carry out safe working practices in construction

◘ Information, quantities and communicating with others
◘ Building methods and construction technology
◘ set up and use fixed and transportable machinery

◘ Manufacture complex shaped joinery products

◘ Produce complex shaped joinery product details

 

Diploma/NVQ

Mandatory Units (all of the following):

◙ Conforming to General safety in the workplace

◙ Confirming the occupational method of work in the workplace

◙ Producing setting out details for routine bench joinery products in the workplace

◙ Marking out from setting out details for routine bench joinery products in the workplace

◙ Manufacture routine bench joinery products in the workplace

◙ Confirming work activities and resources for an occupational work area in the workplace

◙ Developing and maintaining good occupational working relationships in the workplace

◙ Manufacturing complex shaped bespoke bench joinery products in the workplace

Additional Units(one from the following):

◙ Setting up and using fixed or transportable woodworking machinery in the workplace

◙ Setting up and using fixed or transportable metalworking machinery in the workplace

◙ Producing complex shaped bespoke Bench Joinery product details in the workplace

◙ Producing CAD setting out details for joinery products in the workplace in the workplace

Site Carpentry

Carry out second fixing

◘ Erect complex structural carcassing components

◘ Maintain non-structural and structural components

How will I learn?

You will learn in a variety of ways:

On the job training by employer

Group and individual study at college

Work based assessment

Practical assessments

Written Assignments

Oral questioning at the end of each practical assessment

The use of on-line facilities

Considerable home study is required along with compiling a portfolio of evidence showing the relevant ‘units of competence’ gathered in the work place and a Key/Functional Skills portfolio at Level 2.

The course consists of a series of College set practical assessments and written assignments; together they consolidate the theory knowledge gained during group and individual study with the communication skills necessary to implement good working practices in the bench joinery, shopfitting or site carpentry industry.

What will I need for the course?

Steel toe boots or shoes (when in the workshops), all other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be supplied by the College.

Black or Blue pen for all written work

2H or 3H pencil for all drawing and practical assessments, an eraser and pencil sharpener.

All other drawing and marking equipment will be supplied as and when required.

All materials, hand tools and Portable Power Tools will be supplied by the College.

 

 

What options are open to me if I successfully complete the course?

This is a nationally recognised qualification that can lead on to managerial professional Level with further experience and training.

What qualifications or experience do I need to get on the course?

Employment in the Bench Joinery/shopfitting industry is essential, qualified to Level 2 achieved a MA. GCSE’s in English and Maths grades A-C, or Key/Functional Skills in Communications and Numeracy at Level 1

Total commitment to work hard and meet the required standards in all areas of the course and a commitment in gathering the relevant ‘work based evidence’.

The duration is for ten weeks of two week blocks over the course of one year or two days per week over a year.
