Foundation Degree in Historic Building Conservation
Level 2 Bench Joinery, Masonry and Wood Carving

Whilst at the College Stephen and fellow students created The Baring Trust. Stephen was instigator and lead campaigner in the attempt to obtain a listing for the Baring Hall Hotel and save the building from being demolished. The campaign attracted the support of RIBA, Lord Northbrook, Stephen Fry, as well as heritage organisations such as SAVE, the Heritage of London Trust, the Ancient monument Society and the Lewisham Environment Trust.

Since leaving the College in 2011 Stephen has given evidence at City Hall to amend the planning law to protect other pubs across London. The Baring Trust has given evidence to the planning inspectorate to preserve 12 acres of a grade 11 SINC (Site of Nature Conservation Interest) and 4 other public houses in London. Stephen has also worked with the Princes Foundation to obtain £1.2k for a public realm development around the Baring Hall Hotel.

In the future Stephen hopes to remain working with The Baring Trust to continue to plan and conserve the historic and natural environment and develop the Grove Park Neighbourhood Plan using heritage and the environment as the driver.

I enjoyed the mix of students, guidance and support during and after the course from the professors, students and mentors at the Building Crafts College.”
