Instagram: @buildingcraftscollege
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Starting May 5th 2022, an 8-week Thursday evening class for beginners to those with intermediate experience. The course will introduce the hand tools and techniques for working stone. Students will then progress to creating a carved form in limestone, based on a choice of architectural and ornamental carvings.
Set in our well-equipped stonemasonry workshops, the course will be an opportunity to learn about the basics of stonemasonry and see how techniques can be used to make a simple form in stone.
The course will be delivered by stonecarver Miriam Johnson, www.miriamjohnson.co.uk, who has worked on commissions throughout the UK and overseas. She has produced carvings for Southwark Cathedral, the Victoria and
Albert Museum and The Worshipful Company of Masons, as well as working on the conservation of Elizabeth Tower in London. Most recently Miriam has been teaching for the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts outreach school in Al Ula, Saudi Arabia.
