Role Overview – Apprentice at Proportion London

Proportion London is a global visual merchandising services company, designing and manufacturing
high-quality, innovative display solutions for leading high-end and high street brands and museums. We
are part of Kesslers London, a design-led manufacturing company creating innovative displays and
retail experiences for brands and retailers across the world.

Proportion London descends from Siegel and Stockman. Founded in France in 1867 by Frederick
Stockman, he began trading in Great Britain in the early 1920s, manufacturing hand-crafted Papiermâché bust forms and torsos for workrooms, couture house design studios and dressmakers’
showrooms. During the early part of the 20th century, department stores became big retail business
introducing the need for bust forms and display figures for their professional window-trimming teams.
This led to a huge increase in business and diversification into more display fixtures and fittings.

Today, we look beyond conventional retail, combining the latest technology with traditional techniques
and have over 150 years of experience to produce interesting and market-leading products.
Experienced teams of sculptors, model makers and artists ensure that every detail of Proportion’s
product is perfect. Crafting from the finest materials, our entirely handmade product remains unrivalled.
As well as high-quality manufacturing, our services include design disciplines which we offer
individually, or as a complete service.

Unlike agencies and sourcing companies, our in-house capabilities enable us to seamlessly manage
projects from start-to-finish, providing customers with transparent production plans, on-site quality
assurance and confidence in our project control.
The team at Proportion don’t just build products—we create the kind of wonder that’s revolutionised the
visual merchandising industry. It’s the diversity of those people and their ideas that encourages the
innovation that runs through everything we create.

We are looking for an apprentice to join our team of artisan crafters who can learn all aspects of the
mannequin manufacture, gaining a well-rounded training from an experienced mentor within the team
and developing to specialise in one of the disciplines.

Some of the disciplines which will be learned are:
– developing a keen eye for perfection and best-in-class product.
– learning quality control processes and ensuring high standards are maintained
– lamination of fibreglass products
– first finishing: refining the product, by filling, sanding and assembling items
– moulding of parts for use in the final build
– casting products in different materials
– second finishing; making the base product perfect by and ready to progress to the final stage
– painting top coat finishes using a variety of techniques
– using a range of trade and specialist tools and techniques to create and refine product
– understanding the development process from concept through to delivery

The ideal candidate will be practical with an eye for detail and high standards and a willingness to learn
