Short Course: Summer School – Furniture Making – Intensive

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is a practical and intensive workshop-based course that offers a comprehensive introduction to woodworking and furniture making with hand tools and also some power tools and static machinery.
Class sizes will be small ensuring plenty of one-to-one time with tutors.
Students will learn:
- To use marking out tools to lay out joinery.
- To use a handsaw, chisels and planes to cut and fit basic woodworking joints (dovetails, halvings, mortice and tenons).
- How to sharpen edge tools (chisels, plane irons).
- How to hand plane timber from sawn.
- The safe use of an electric router and how to use it to run grooves in timber.
- Some basic timber technology and how woodworking joints and furniture are assembled to allow for timber movement.
- How to clamp and glue up your components.
- How to cut hinge housings and fit hinges.
- How to prepare timber surfaces and finish with oil.
- Lots of tips and tricks and how to fix your mistakes!

- Steel toe cap boots (TO BE WORN AT ALL TIMES WHILE ON COURSE)
- H or 2H pencils
- pencil sharpener
- rubber/eraser
- notebook/paper

- Fees £4,000 including a non-refundable deposit and registration fee of £450
